Mechanical Engineer I (Stack Engineering)

Location: Rochester Innovation Center, Rochester, NY, United States; ability to work on site required. Business travel of up to 10% may be required.

Salary: $66,000–$99,000 per year.

What you will do

• Support electrolyzer and fuel cell stack teardowns, inspections, sample preparation, and root cause investigations.
• Operate and troubleshoot 1 kW, 9 kW, 15 kW, 50 kW, and 1 MW PEM test stands and data acquisition systems.
• Execute standard and non-standard test procedures for fuel cell and electrolyzer components and stacks.
• Develop teardown procedures, test protocols, fixtures, tooling, and data collection and reporting methods with engineering and laboratory staff.
• Record, analyze, and present test and teardown findings, recommendations, and failure causes.
• Support stack component and test fixture design from concept through prototype, including CAD models, drawings, bills of materials, DFMEA, and design reviews.

Requirements

• BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.
• 0–2 years of relevant experience; internships, co-ops, senior design projects, and academic laboratory work are relevant.
• Hands-on experience or familiarity with laboratory equipment, mechanical testing, tooling, and chemical handling.
• Basic knowledge of 3D CAD modeling and drawings; Creo and Windchill experience is beneficial.
• Interest in or exposure to GD&T, FEA/CFD, and DFMEA methodologies.
• Ability to work at the Rochester Innovation Center in Rochester, NY, communicate clearly, and collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and analytical teams.

Nice to have

• Exposure to PEM fuel cell or electrolyzer stack hardware, testing, or teardown and failure analysis.
• Experience with fuel cells, electrolyzers, electrochemistry, or hands-on mechanical testing.
