Mechanical Engineer I (Spacecraft/Aerospace): Developing high-performance, lightweight satellite systems, mechanisms, and bus configurations for civil, commercial, and defense missions with an accent on spacecraft mechanical design, CAD, hand calculations, and FEA. Focus on owning components from concept through production and testing, leading design reviews, and solving complex deployment and mechanism challenges for space hardware.

Location: Long Beach, California, United States; onsite role

Base salary: $82,400–$113,000 USD annually. Total compensation, including equity: $89,350–$125,325 USD annually.

What you will do

  • Support proposals and mission concepts with the Business Development team.
  • Develop lightweight satellite systems, mechanisms, deployment systems, and satellite bus configurations.
  • Own component designs from concept through production, testing, and operation.
  • Use hand calculations and finite element analysis to drive mechanical design decisions.
  • Create and maintain CAD models, production drawings, product definitions, and test and operations procedures.
  • Lead component design, manufacturing, and test reviews while managing schedules, vendors, budgets, and project deliverables.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, or another engineering discipline.
  • Mechanical engineering experience with CAD modeling and drawing.
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to program requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance.
  • Work is based at the Long Beach, California location.

Nice to have

  • Master’s or PhD in aerospace or mechanical engineering.
  • Active Secret or TS/SCI clearance and spacecraft or satellite design experience.
  • Experience with rapid conceptual design iteration, mechanism problem-solving, and hands-on development and testing.
  • Experience interpreting thermal and vibration test data and applying GD&T.
  • Experience with satellite deployment systems, spacecraft systems engineering, requirements assessments, and interface control documents.
