TL;DR
Energy Trading Scheduling Senior Specialist (CAISO/EDAM): Managing renewable and conventional generation, intertie, and demand-side resources while scheduling wholesale power transactions in a 24x7 operational environment with an accent on least-cost dispatch, regulatory compliance, and real-time market operations. Focus on submitting bids and schedules, balancing energy positions, analyzing operational data, and making time-sensitive decisions during rotating 12-hour shifts.

Location: On-site in Rosemead, California, United States; extended work may also be required in Irvine, California. Rotating 12-hour shifts in a 24x7 operational environment. Relocation may apply.

Salary: $129,200–$193,700 per year.

What you will do

  • Manage scheduling coordinator functions in the CAISO wholesale power market and the regional Expanded Day Ahead Market.
  • Submit bids and schedules into multiple ISO systems and communicate dispatch instructions.
  • Purchase and sell energy and transmission, schedule contracted volumes, and balance hourly positions.
  • Analyze nominations, forecasts, and operational data to optimize asset scheduling while maintaining safety, tariff, regulatory, and risk compliance.
  • Produce transaction and operational reports and support presentations for executive management.
  • Adjust daily energy forecasts and present balancing transactions for trader execution.

Requirements

  • At least five years of experience in wholesale energy markets, resource outages, or plant operations.
  • Experience as a Scheduling Coordinator in CAISO or another balancing area, or equivalent experience following tariffs, business process manuals, NERC procedures, and internal operating processes.
  • Experience with generation dispatching, energy scheduling, energy trading, transmission purchasing, and e-tags.
  • Ability to analyze ambiguous operational data, prioritize simultaneous activities, and make sound real-time decisions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to collaborate with clients, peers, management, support staff, and vendors.
  • Must pass a NERC/CIP Personnel Risk Assessment or background investigation and complete required training before receiving unescorted access.

Nice to have

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience with CAISO and balancing-area software such as ADS, SIBR, CMRI, BSAP, OMS, and CIDI.
  • Experience with SCADA, EMS, or GMS control systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
