Building Engineer I (HVAC)

Location: Arlington, Virginia, United States. This position is 100% in-office during standard business hours; remote work is not available.

What you will do

• Perform scheduled maintenance, repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance for HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
• Respond to tenant service requests, including temperature issues, plumbing problems, lighting repairs, and urgent building incidents.
• Troubleshoot minor equipment malfunctions, replace components, and escalate complex issues to senior engineers.
• Inspect properties, maintain equipment and inspection records, and assist with contractor oversight.
• Participate in on-call rotations, emergency response, severe-weather recovery, and system-outage support.
• Work with tenants, contractors, property managers, technicians, and senior engineers while developing technical skills.

Requirements

• 2–3 years of job-related experience or equivalent certification or trade experience.
• Required engineering and trade licenses in accordance with applicable local, state, or national requirements.
• Developing knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building automation systems.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, laptops, phones, work-order systems, email, and training platforms.
• Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, lift up to 50 pounds, and perform stooping, crouching, and kneeling.
• Must already be authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.
