Payments Infrastructure Engineer (Fintech)

Location: US-based, remote

Salary: $200,000–$500,000 per year, plus equity for full-time employees

What you will do

• Build and maintain the double-entry ledger as the system of record, including entries, balances, holds, reversals, audit trails, and point-in-time balances.
• Design and integrate ACH, RTP, wire, card, and stablecoin payment rails, including provider abstractions and settlement behavior.
• Build automated reconciliation, exception queues, payout infrastructure, and loan lifecycle flows.
• Define risk controls for high-value transactions, including holds, limits, settlement windows, and step-up verification.
• Use AI to generate integration clients and tests, simulate payment failures, triage reconciliation exceptions, and test lending state machines.
• Work with Finance, Risk, Operations, Support, and Product to balance delivery speed with financial correctness.

Requirements

• Production ownership of a double-entry ledger, including building, migrating, or being accountable for one.
• Experience moving real money through ACH origination and returns, RTP or FedNow, wires, cards, or equivalent rails.
• Expert SQL and relational database design, with experience handling transactions under load.
• Experience with Python, Postgres, AWS, APIs, webhooks, idempotency, eventual consistency, and reconciliation.
• Experience building production AI agents, skills, MCP servers, connectors, or internal tooling.
• Must be based in the United States and work remotely.

Nice to have

• React and TypeScript experience for customer-facing ledger surfaces.
• Distributed systems, credit or risk modeling, stablecoin or on-chain settlement, KYC/KYB, bank partnerships, or SOX and audit-readiness experience.
• Experience with Stripe, Plaid, Airwallex, PayPal, Modern Treasury, Increase, or third-party ledger services.
