Staff Software Engineer (Agentic Commerce)

Location: Foster City, California, United States; hybrid

Salary: $290,000–$360,000 plus equity

What you will do

• Set the architecture and technical roadmap for Replit’s agentic commerce platform.
• Lead purchasing experiences that translate user intent into options, prices, authorization, purchases, and verified fulfillment.
• Build extensible integrations with merchants, software vendors, service providers, Stripe, and other payment providers.
• Design secure agent-facing APIs and tools with scoped permissions, credentials, spending limits, and confirmation flows.
• Support enterprise purchasing capabilities including approval workflows, role-based access, purchasing policies, and audit trails.
• Own the full purchase lifecycle, including provisioning, subscriptions, renewals, refunds, reconciliation, reliable retries, and recovery from partial failures.

Requirements

• Staff-level technical leadership on complex customer-facing products or platforms across multiple teams.
• Strong hands-on engineering and system design skills, including API design, data modeling, and distributed workflows.
• Experience with third-party integrations, asynchronous events, duplicate requests, partial failures, and evolving provider capabilities.
• Security-conscious approach to authentication, authorization, credentials, sensitive data, and delegated actions.
• Ability to align engineering and cross-functional partners, document decisions, drive execution, mentor engineers, and own production operations.
• Comfort using AI-assisted development tools while maintaining code correctness, security, and maintainability.

Nice to have

• Experience with commerce platforms, marketplaces, procurement systems, or multi-vendor products.
• Experience with agent tool calling, multi-step agent workflows, MCP, or delegated authorization.
• Familiarity with payment lifecycles, subscriptions, fulfillment, refunds, reconciliation, and usage-based costs.
• Experience with enterprise purchasing controls, automated provisioning, catalogs, pricing, and entitlements.
• Experience with Stripe, payment providers, developer platforms, or partner integration ecosystems.
