Principal BIOS Embedded Software Engineer (BIOS)

Location: Onsite at an HPE office in the United States; salary information references Colorado, Texas, and Wisconsin.

Salary: USD 160,000–303,000 annual base salary in Colorado; USD 152,000–349,000 in Texas and Wisconsin. Variable incentives may also be offered.

What you will do

• Design, develop, maintain, and debug BIOS and platform firmware for high-performance server and HPC platforms.
• Bring up and enable complex platforms across BIOS, hardware, operating systems, and validation environments.
• Implement processor initialization, chipset and board bring-up, hardware interfaces, system monitoring, and networking-related platform enablement.
• Create and execute firmware test plans, protocols, automation, and documentation; diagnose and resolve integration issues.
• Coordinate delivery with software engineers, hardware teams, BIOS vendors, silicon partners, and outsourced development partners.
• Lead complex firmware programs, communicate technical risks and design tradeoffs, and mentor less-experienced engineers.

Requirements

• 15+ years of embedded software development experience and 10+ years of BIOS development experience.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
• Expertise in C and C++, BIOS technologies, UEFI firmware development, platform initialization, driver development, debugging, and integration.
• Experience with multiple processor families, chipsets, platform architectures, and AMD, Nvidia, or Intel platforms.
• Experience with Linux development environments, build tools, scripting, firmware debugging, and firmware testing methodologies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, including the ability to explain architectures, tradeoffs, and recommendations.

Nice to have

• Experience with server platform bring-up, silicon initialization, ACPI, SMBIOS, IPMI, or Redfish firmware interfaces.
• Knowledge of secure boot, firmware update flows, board-level debug tools, and collaboration with BIOS vendors or silicon partners.
• Experience porting BIOS from a third-party vendor implementation to a proprietary platform.
