TL;DR
System Software Engineer (BMC Firmware/OpenBMC): Building and shipping firmware for custom AI compute boards, from board bring-up through datacenter deployment, with an accent on Yocto-based systems, Linux drivers, platform management, and firmware security. Focus on designing Redfish/IPMI and DMTF interfaces, implementing telemetry and thermal/power management, debugging across hardware and firmware boundaries, and influencing ASIC and board architecture.

Location: Mountain View, United States; onsite role. Up to 3 weeks of remote work is offered as a benefit.

Salary: US base salary of $250,000–$600,000 annually for senior-career candidates, plus equity. Early-career range: $160,000–$275,000; mid-career range: $175,000–$400,000.

Company

hirify.global develops custom silicon and systems designed to run generative AI models efficiently and sustainably.

What you will do

  • Design, build, and ship OpenBMC firmware for custom AI compute boards from reference-hardware bring-up through production deployment.
  • Own Yocto/OpenEmbedded builds, board ports, device trees, U-Boot, and Linux kernel integration for the BMC SoC.
  • Develop telemetry, inventory, event logging, fan, thermal, power, and RAS capabilities for ASICs and board components.
  • Build Redfish, IPMI, MCTP, PLDM, and SPDM management interfaces, including out-of-band ASIC management.
  • Implement firmware updates, secure boot, attestation, kernel drivers, D-Bus services, CI, test automation, and firmware tooling.
  • Debug hardware and firmware with schematics, logic analyzers, and JTAG while contributing to board and ASIC design decisions.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of BMC firmware and embedded Linux experience, including hands-on OpenBMC work from board bring-up through production.
  • Strong C/C++, with solid Python or Bash and deep Linux knowledge across user space, drivers, and kernel internals.
  • Proficiency with Yocto/OpenEmbedded, U-Boot, device trees, and BMC SoCs such as ASPEED or Nuvoton.
  • Board bring-up experience with I2C/I3C, SPI, eSPI/LPC, SMBus, UART, PCIe, and JTAG.
  • Working knowledge of IPMI/KCS, Redfish, MCTP, PLDM, and SPDM.
  • Strong technical communication skills and the ability to work autonomously with hardware, silicon, security, and systems engineers.

Nice to have

  • Experience with thermal and power management, firmware security, secure boot, root of trust, attestation, and firmware updates.
  • OpenBMC, Linux kernel, OCP, or DMTF contributions.
  • Pre-silicon validation, first-silicon accelerator or SoC bring-up, SR-IOV, dma-buf, VFIO, or peer-to-peer PCIe experience.
  • Kernel profiling, BMC/host interaction paths, or Rust systems programming experience.

Culture & Benefits

  • Small team with broad ownership, high autonomy, and direct influence on firmware architecture and board design.
  • Four weeks of accrued PTO, 12 company holidays, and up to three weeks of remote work.
  • Company-subsidized medical, dental, vision, life, HSA, FSA, and disability insurance.
  • 401(k) options with up to 5% company contribution and a $1,500 annual professional development budget.
  • Paid parental leave, mental health benefits, company meals, commute reimbursement, and home-office, cellular, and internet support.

Hiring process

  • Employment is contingent on the ability to comply with U.S. export control laws without obtaining a license.
