Procurement Category Specialist (Mechanical Commodities)

Location: Québec, Canada; hybrid work model with three days per week on site

What you will do

• Develop and execute commodity strategies for machined parts, castings, forgings, sheet metal, plastics, fabricated assemblies, enclosures, fasteners, and other mechanical components.
• Lead RFQs, supplier evaluations, market research, commercial negotiations, and contract management.
• Manage strategic supplier relationships and performance across quality, delivery, responsiveness, cost, and capacity.
• Identify cost-reduction opportunities through competitive sourcing, value engineering, productivity initiatives, and should-cost analysis.
• Identify and mitigate supply risks, develop contingency plans, and support supply continuity, capacity planning, engineering changes, product transfers, and lifecycle management.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Planning, Quality, Logistics, Operations, and global procurement counterparts on supplier development and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Production or Operations Management, Supply Chain, or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, or commodity management in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Strong experience sourcing mechanical commodities and understanding machining, fabrication, stamping, casting, injection molding, welding, and assembly processes.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and bills of materials; experience with ERP systems, preferably SAP, and Microsoft Excel.
• Proven negotiation, cost-reduction, supplier-performance, analytical, project-management, and stakeholder-management skills.
• Bilingual French and English required; English is needed for communication with global suppliers and stakeholders outside Québec.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Value Engineering, Supplier Development, and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
