Location: Hybrid, with an average requirement of 2 days per week from an HPE office. The listed US salary bands apply to Colorado, Massachusetts, and California.
Salary: $126,000–$239,000 annually in Colorado; $135,500–$258,500 annually in Massachusetts; $135,500–$275,000 annually in California. The ranges represent base salary, with potential variable incentives.

What you will do
- Research and improve quantum error correction strategies, algorithms, and software for practical quantum hardware execution.
- Develop QEC components for quantum circuit compilation, emulation, simulation, and resource estimation.
- Develop or integrate real-time decoder technologies into the HPC-QC software stack.
- Contribute quantum error correction expertise to HPC-QC architecture decisions and interface standardization.
- Extend open-source quantum computing tools and improve circuit compilation and simulation capabilities.
- Demonstrate workflows combining high-performance computing and quantum computing, and communicate findings through publications and presentations.
Requirements
- PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field is preferred.
- At least 10 years of programming experience and at least 1 year implementing quantum error correction software.
- Advanced programming skills in C, C++, or Rust and Python.
- Deep understanding of quantum error correction codes, quantum computing, circuit compilation, decoding, and circuit optimization.
- Experience creating or extending quantum computing tools such as Qiskit, CUDA-Q, TensorFlow Quantum, or PennyLane.
- Strong mathematics, software architecture, API design, communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Nice to have
- Experience with HPC environments, cloud platforms, GPU computing, or FPGA computing.
- Knowledge of quantum chemistry, quantum simulation, combinatorial optimization, or statistical physics.
- Familiarity with TensorFlow, PyTorch, machine learning algorithms, and generative AI.
- Track record of publishing research in leading journals and conferences.
