Sr. Systems Software Engineer (C/Linux)

Location: Hybrid role requiring an average of 2 days per week at the HPE office in Roseville, California, United States

Salary: USD 136,500–276,500 annual base salary; variable incentives may also be offered.

What you will do

• Own software feature areas end to end, from architecture and design through implementation and delivery.
• Design, develop, debug, and maintain embedded software in C on Linux-based systems.
• Use Python for tooling and testing as needed.
• Perform system planning, architectural design, integration debugging, and feature-level ownership.
• Coordinate feature delivery, conduct code reviews, ensure software quality, and mentor junior engineers.
• Collaborate with management and cross-functional teams to communicate design status and resolve technical issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Strong proficiency in C and experience developing embedded software on Linux.
• Experience with system-level design, architectural decision-making, and feature ownership.
• Ability to lead technically while remaining hands-on, with strong analytical, debugging, and communication skills.
• Availability to work in a hybrid schedule with an average of 2 days per week in the Roseville, California office.

Nice to have

• 10+ years of software development experience.
• Experience with wired networking or switch platforms.
• Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical initiatives.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools and AI technologies to improve software development workflows while maintaining code quality and reliability.
