R&D Engineer Software 5 (AI Networking)

Location: San Jose, California, USA; onsite

Annual base salary: USD 143,800–230,000, plus discretionary annual bonus and equity awards.

What you will do

• Design, develop, document, and test Network Operating System software for switch and router platforms.
• Develop and program the forwarding plane through the SAI interface.
• Deliver end-to-end features covering compilation, integration, debugging, and production readiness.
• Collaborate with marketing, architecture, software test, silicon development, SQA, and support teams.
• Work with large customers to understand requirements and provide technical solutions.
• Participate in open-source software development and use AI tools to improve productivity and quality.

Requirements

• Principal-level software engineering experience: BS degree with 12+ years of experience or MS degree with 10+ years of experience.
• Strong forwarding-plane experience with L2, L3, ACL, QoS, tunnels, SRv6, and telemetry.
• Proficiency in C, C++, and Python.
• Hands-on experience using ASIC SDKs to program the forwarding plane.
• Expertise in open-source networking software such as FBOSS or SONiC.
• Familiarity with GNU tools, GitHub, Jenkins, and Gerrit, plus very good communication skills for frequent customer interaction.
