Sr. Embedded System Engineer I, Edge Capture (6813)

Location: Hybrid in Reston, Virginia; attendance at the Reston HQ office is required at least 3 days per week. Candidates must be able to obtain a Secret Clearance and verify eligibility to work in the United States.

What you will do

• Own edge capture devices from board bring-up and on-device software through fieldable physical units.
• Configure embedded Linux platforms, including flashing, kernel and device tree configuration, camera enablement, and driver troubleshooting.
• Build capture pipelines for synchronized video, audio, sensor telemetry, local buffering, and store-and-forward delivery.
• Integrate and synchronize depth and stereo cameras, IMUs, GNSS receivers, and other sensors.
• Convert development kits and COTS components into fieldable devices while addressing enclosure, mounting, power, and thermal constraints.
• Produce bills of materials, assembly instructions, test procedures, and technical presentations or reports.

Requirements

• Strong experience with embedded Linux on ARM-based systems, including NVIDIA Jetson platforms, device trees, and CSI cameras.
• At least 5 years of hands-on C, C++, and Python development for resource-constrained devices.
• Experience deploying integrated development kits and COTS components in real-world or field environments.
• Experience with edge systems that capture and manage camera, media, telemetry, or physical sensor data.
• Expertise with GStreamer, V4L2, hardware-accelerated H.264/H.265 encoding, and RTSP or WebRTC.
• Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance and work in the United States.

Nice to have

• Experience with object storage, resumable or chunked uploads, and cloud delivery under unreliable connectivity.
• Knowledge of power budgeting, battery systems, and thermal management in compact devices.
