Regulatory Affairs Intern (Utility Regulation)

Location: Chester, Virginia; candidates must reside within 50 miles of the reporting location

Salary: $17.40–$29.30 per hour

What you will do

• Monitor and summarize activities of the Virginia State Corporation Commission, Virginia General Assembly, and relevant federal regulatory agencies.
• Research regulatory, legislative, and public policy issues affecting utility operations and customer programs.
• Support regulatory filings, proceedings, compliance tracking, reporting, and regulatory record management.
• Analyze proposed legislation, regulations, and policy changes and prepare impact summaries, presentations, reports, and executive briefings.
• Gather data, track case activity, summarize Commission orders, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Contribute to projects involving utility regulation, broadband deployment, renewable energy policy, infrastructure investment, and economic development.

Requirements

• Must be a rising junior or senior currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree program.
• Degree focus in public policy, political science, economics, business administration, finance, public administration, communications, law/pre-law, engineering, or a related field.
• Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, analytical, and research skills with excellent attention to detail and organization.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and must not require employer sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice to have

• Interest in utility regulation, energy policy, broadband policy, telecommunications, government affairs, or public administration.
• Familiarity with the Virginia legislative process or regulatory environment.
• Experience researching public policy or regulatory issues.
• Knowledge of data analysis and reporting tools such as Power BI.
• Previous internship or leadership experience demonstrating initiative and problem-solving skills.
