Senior EHS Specialist (Biotech)

Location: Piscataway, New Jersey, United States; fully onsite

Salary: $85,000–$100,000 per year, based on experience

What you will do

• Build and operate EHS programs for research laboratories, including chemical hygiene, hazard communication, PPE, lockout/tagout, waste management, procedures, and training.
• Support BSL-2 biosafety through biological waste management, spill response, and laboratory audits.
• Conduct laboratory and facility inspections, verify safety equipment, maintain chemical inventories and SDS records, and perform exposure monitoring.
• Review equipment, laboratory moves, process changes, facility designs, ventilation, storage, egress, construction activities, and startup plans for EHS risks.
• Oversee contractor safety on construction sites, including safety plans, permits, site walks, and corrective actions.
• Maintain emergency plans, run drills, investigate incidents and near misses, manage regulatory records, track metrics, and report open issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in EHS, environmental science, engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of EHS experience.
• Experience in research laboratories or biotechnology/pharmaceutical environments, ideally including BSL-2 work.
• Experience with facility design reviews and construction-site safety.
• Ability to work independently, conduct hands-on activities in laboratories and job sites, and own programs through completion.

Nice to have

• CSP, ASP, CHMM, or a similar professional certification.
