TL;DR
Manager, Manufacturing Operations (Nuclear Manufacturing): Managing shop-floor execution for component manufacturing supporting fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor development with an accent on CNC machining, fabrication, welding, scheduling, and quality requirements. Focus on coordinating high-mix prototype production, verifying work-order readiness, maintaining equipment availability, and solving capacity, safety, and schedule challenges.

Location: Onsite in Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States. Some travel may be required, up to 10–20%.

What you will do

  • Coordinate daily shop-floor operations across machining, fabrication, welding, assembly, and related manufacturing activities.
  • Manage work-order execution for components, prototype hardware, test equipment, and developmental-test assemblies.
  • Partner with Manufacturing Planning and Production Control to verify material, tooling, drawings, work instructions, staffing, and equipment readiness.
  • Communicate shop capacity, progress, constraints, schedule risks, recovery actions, and completion status.
  • Coordinate priorities and staffing while balancing changing R&D needs with approved schedules, safety, quality, and available capacity.
  • Drive improvements in workflow, safety, quality, productivity, responsiveness, equipment maintenance, and manufacturing readiness.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of experience in fabrication, welding, and/or CNC machining, including at least 5 years managing related teams.
  • Strong experience with CNC mills, lathes, routers, and 3-axis and 5-axis equipment.
  • Experience with fabrication and welding processes, welding inspection, and quality programs.
  • Knowledge of applicable ASME standards, ISO 9001, manufacturing codes, inspection practices, and safe shop operations.
  • Ability to read engineering and assembly drawings, including GD&T, and coordinate high-mix, prototype, or rapidly changing manufacturing work.
  • Work requires authorization to access Department of Energy Part 810-controlled information; additional export-control licensing requirements may apply.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of Mastercam and SolidWorks.
  • Experience with stainless steel, piping, pressure vessels, graphite, and the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.
  • Ability to qualify in ASME B31.3 GTAW welding or D1.1 structural GMAW welding.
  • Forklift and boom lift certification, or the ability to obtain certification.
