Quality Control Technician (Machining)

Location: Onsite at the Alameda, California headquarters

What you will do

• Plan and execute complex dimensional inspections of precision-machined parts, fabricated components, and assemblies.
• Interpret engineering drawings and GD&T requirements, establish datum reference frames, and select suitable measurement methods.
• Develop, validate, and execute inspection programs using CMMs, portable measurement arms, laser trackers, and precision instruments.
• Support in-machine probing routines for 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis machining centers and correlate results with independent inspections.
• Partner with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to investigate discrepancies, improve processes, and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain complete inspection records, support audits, mentor inspectors, and uphold nuclear quality, traceability, and documentation controls.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required; technical training, apprenticeship, or an associate degree in metrology, manufacturing, machining, or a related field is preferred.
• At least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in dimensional inspection, precision manufacturing quality control, or a closely related field.
• Advanced proficiency with engineering drawings and GD&T in accordance with ASME Y14.5.
• Proficiency with micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, indicators, surface plates, and at least one advanced measurement system such as a CMM, portable arm, or laser tracker.
• Experience with inspection software such as Verisurf, PolyWorks, PC-DMIS, or comparable tools; knowledge of machining, fixturing, manufacturing variation, and measurement uncertainty.
• Work is performed onsite in Alameda, California, with occasional travel, overtime, weekend work, nonstandard hours, and second-shift assignments.

Nice to have

• Experience inspecting nuclear, aerospace, defense, or other high-consequence hardware.
• Experience with Romer arms, laser trackers, in-machine probing, ERP systems, digital inspection records, first article inspections, or audit support.
• ASQ Certified Quality Inspector, Certified Quality Technician, or GD&T certification.
