Quality Engineer (Energy)

Location: On-site at the Austin, TX facility; relocation to Austin is required, with relocation assistance available if necessary.

What you will do

• Own incoming, in-process, and final quality for assigned commodities, sub-assemblies, and finished products.
• Qualify suppliers through audits, first-article inspections, PPAP-style submissions, and process capability reviews.
• Develop inspection plans, control plans, acceptance criteria, work instructions, and quality records.
• Lead root-cause investigations using 8D, 5-Why, and Ishikawa methods, and drive CAPA, NCR, and SCAR processes to closure.
• Partner with design engineering on DFM/DFA, GD&T, critical-to-quality features, and manufacturable specifications.
• Support NPI, process validation, pilot builds, production ramp, quality metrics, calibration programs, and QMS development.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Aerospace, or a related engineering field.
• 5+ years of quality engineering experience in a hardware manufacturing environment.
• Hands-on supplier quality experience, including audits, FAI, PPAP, SCARs, and supplier development.
• Knowledge of 8D, 5-Why, fishbone analysis, SPC, Cpk, MSA, and basic DOE.
• Fluency with GD&T, mechanical drawings, metrology, and inspection tools such as CMMs, calipers, micrometers, and optical comparators.
• Experience with ISO 9001 and building or operating a QMS; willingness to travel to domestic and occasional international supplier facilities.

Nice to have

• Experience in energy, aerospace, automotive, industrial equipment, or other regulated and high-reliability hardware industries.
• Experience with welded or brazed assemblies, pressure vessels, high-temperature materials, thermal storage systems, or rotating machinery.
• ASQ certification, Six Sigma Green or Black Belt, or experience with ERP, MES, or QMS platforms.
• Experience standing up a quality function or advancing a QMS toward AS9100, ISO 14001, or a similar standard.
