Location: Austin, Texas, United States, or South San Francisco, California, United States

Base salary: $151,000–$281,000 USD per year, plus equity compensation for full-time employees.

What you will do

• Build and operate a test fleet for next-generation surgical robots and component test rigs.
• Instrument robots, reproduce operating conditions, and perform surgeries on brain proxies.
• Investigate failures across mechanics, electronics, firmware, and software.
• Automate robot verification and validation, test setup, execution, recovery, results analysis, and accelerated life testing.
• Design fixtures, sensing, logging systems, and safe operating procedures.
• Collaborate with simulation and HIL engineers and convert real failures into repeatable regression tests.

Requirements

• Hands-on robotics experience, including building, troubleshooting, and repairing robots.
• Python skills for test automation and data analysis, plus a basic understanding of Rust.
• Experience with motor drives, encoders, sensors, and hardware interfaces such as Ethernet, SPI, I²C, UART, or EtherCAT.
• Ability to read schematics, build instrumented fixtures, and use oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and data acquisition systems.
• Strong hardware troubleshooting skills, including diagnosing intermittent faults and failures that are difficult to reproduce.
• Discipline around repeatability, traceability, evidence-based validation, and effective use of AI agents for tooling and failure investigation.
