TL;DR
Robotics Operations Engineer I, First Shift (Robotics): Operating and maintaining LILA’s production robot fleet in a laboratory environment with an accent on live monitoring, safe intervention, incident documentation, and hands-on troubleshooting. Focus on diagnosing recurring failures, executing robot swaps, improving fleet uptime, and translating field observations into software and hardware fixes.

Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA; on-site lab production environment. The schedule begins at 9am–5pm and transitions to first-shift coverage from 6am–2pm as fleet operating hours expand.

Expected base salary: $75,600–$109,200 USD per year, with bonus potential and early-stage equity.

What you will do

  • Monitor robot behavior during live production operations and intervene safely by pausing, stopping, or resetting robots.
  • Document logs, sensor output, video, reproduction steps, incidents, maintenance actions, and fleet status.
  • Perform minor mechanical and electrical maintenance, including cabling, sensor swaps, fasteners, and component replacement.
  • Execute robot swap procedures, validate spare units, and return robots to production readiness.
  • Translate field observations into priorities for robotics software and hardware teams.
  • Identify recurring failure patterns and recommend improvements that reduce downtime.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience with robotic systems through employment, technical programs, internships, academic robotics teams, or equivalent practical exposure.
  • Understanding of robotics concepts including kinematics, sensors, actuators, and control systems.
  • Working experience with ROS2, including nodes, topics, launch files, and debugging or introspection tools.
  • Basic mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills covering cabling, connectors, sensors, and fasteners.
  • Strong observational skills, sound judgment, clear written communication, and the ability to work independently and cross-functionally.
  • Ability to work on the required schedule, transitioning from 9am–5pm to 6am–2pm first-shift coverage.

Nice to have

  • Experience supporting robots or automated systems through a production rollout or pilot phase.
  • Familiarity with Nav2, Behavior Trees, or related robotics tooling.
  • Scripting experience with Python or similar tools for log review, data collection, or simple automation.
  • Experience with fleet management, monitoring dashboards, telemetry tools, or issue-tracking systems.
  • Background in mechanical, electrical, robotics, or mechatronics engineering.
