Staff Engineer (AI)

Location: Fully remote within the United States

Salary: $151,000–$178,500 annual salary; equity may be offered.

What you will do

• Own and evolve the architecture of the React frontend, Node.js/Express APIs, Postgres database, and AWS ECS infrastructure.
• Drive the migration from JavaScript to TypeScript by establishing engineering patterns, tooling, and standards.
• Design and extend ETL pipelines and a configuration-driven AI integration framework.
• Define and execute the technical strategy for integrating ML and AI models into the core platform.
• Lead design reviews, document architecture decisions, and resolve systemic technical debt.
• Mentor engineers, establish quality and reliability standards, and support hiring, incident response, and technical delivery.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 3 years in a senior or staff-level role.
• Deep production experience with JavaScript and TypeScript in full-stack environments.
• Strong knowledge of React, Node.js/Express, and Postgres, including performance, reliability, and maintainability.
• Experience designing distributed systems or data pipeline architectures on AWS, including services such as ECS, RDS, S3, or Lambda.
• Significant experience architecting and deploying production-grade ML/AI systems, including LLM integration and model lifecycle management.
• Applicants must be able to work remotely from the United States and have the right to work in the US.

Nice to have

• Experience with healthcare or regulated data environments, including HIPAA compliance and PHI handling.
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures, message queues, or streaming pipelines.
• Player-coach experience or a previous transition from engineering management back to an individual contributor track.
• Open-source contributions, engineering blog posts, or conference talks.
