Underwriter (Health Insurance)

What you will do

• Manage a portfolio of standard small and mid-sized clients with sales teams and underwriting peers.
• Own the underwriting engagement from initial risk identification through final sold-contract documentation.
• Prepare client-level quotes, calculate rates using company rating algorithms, and adjust rates for unusual situations or claim patterns.
• Assess risk using risk scores, demographic analysis, financial condition, industry characteristics, and turnover considerations.
• Communicate underwriting positions, recommendations, and results to sales partners and internal departments.
• Maintain book management details, complete administrative tasks, and meet production and timeliness standards.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of relevant underwriting, risk management, actuarial, advanced mathematics, or quantitative analysis experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, actuarial science, finance, business, computer science, science, technology, or another quantitative discipline, or relevant equivalent experience.
• Understanding of health products, services, risk assessment, and underwriting techniques.
• Consultative mindset with strong oral and written communication skills.
• Travel requirement: 0%–25%; the position is office-based with a physical work site requirement.

Nice to have

• One year of health care underwriting, risk management, actuarial work, or advanced mathematics experience.
