Personal Lines Underwriter

Location: Pittsburgh, PA, United States; initial in-person training required, followed by a merit-based work-from-home program depending on job responsibilities

What you will do

• Apply insurance coverage, rules, and company underwriting guidelines to make underwriting decisions.
• Learn personal lines insurance coverages, contracts, policies, manuals, forms, and endorsements.
• Analyze loss experience, financial conditions, and physical characteristics of risks.
• Assemble information, develop risk opinions, and clearly communicate decisions using sound judgment.
• Communicate with independent agents and other associates in writing and verbally.
• Complete the company’s underwriter training program for the assigned line of insurance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent direct experience in property and casualty underwriting.
• Ability to organize data, multitask, and make independent decisions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and correspondence.
• Ability to resolve complex issues and continue developing product knowledge through approved educational programs.
• Ability to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship is required.
