TL;DR
Histology Team Lead (Histology/Immunohistochemistry): Performing histology testing and producing high-quality histopathological slides from human tissue and body fluid specimens with an accent on immunohistochemistry, special stains, specimen embedding, and laboratory quality control. Focus on operating and maintaining laboratory instruments, documenting preventive maintenance and test results, and ensuring accurate diagnostic support for patient care.

Location: Richland, Washington, United States; additional listed locations include Spokane Valley, Seattle, Spokane, Washington, and Portland, Oregon. On-site work is scheduled Monday–Friday from 4:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.; overtime and rotating weekends may be required.

Pay range: $26.40–$42.75 hourly, plus shift 3 differentials.

What you will do

  • Perform immunohistochemistry, routine histology, and special staining procedures.
  • Process human tissue and body fluid specimens for microscopic examination.
  • Orient and embed surgical specimens, section embedded tissue with a microtome, and mount sections on microscope slides.
  • Prepare stains and reagents and operate manual and automated laboratory instruments.
  • Document equipment maintenance, quality control procedures, equipment logs, test results, and corrective actions.
  • Follow specimen-handling, analysis, reporting, laboratory quality, and safety procedures.

Requirements

  • Associate of Science degree in chemical science, biological science, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology, or an applicable non-traditional degree meeting CLIA standards.
  • At least 2 years of histology experience.
  • Familiarity with routine histology procedures, laboratory equipment, laboratory information systems, SOPs, and safety protocols.
  • High attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication, and the ability to prioritize, multitask, and work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to accurately read labels and documents and pass a standardized color blindness test.
  • Flexibility to work overtime as needed.

Nice to have

  • Histology or ASCP certification.
  • At least 5 years of histology experience.
  • At least 6 months of immunohistochemistry experience.
  • Experience embedding both large and small specimens.
