Histotechnician-Casual Rotating Shifts

Location: Kishwaukee Hospital, 1 Kish Hospital Dr., DeKalb, Illinois, United States; onsite, part-time, casual/as-needed position with rotating shifts.

Salary: $28.34–$39.68 per hour

What you will do

• Perform routine histology procedures, including tissue processing, embedding, block reconciliation, microtomy, and section evaluation.
• Operate automated and manual systems for staining, coverslipping, special stains, and frozen tissue sectioning.
• Identify, investigate, document, and escalate specimen, staining, quality, and equipment issues.
• Maintain accurate specimen identification and documentation in the laboratory information system, cassettes, slides, and logs.
• Prioritize technical workload, respond to STAT requests and workflow changes, and communicate with pathologists, residents, coordinators, and supervisors.
• Support quality, safety, infection control, process improvement, specimen problem resolution, and training activities.

Requirements

• Associate degree with 12 semester hours in biology and chemistry, or 60 semester hours of academic credit including the required biology or chemistry coursework, qualifying the applicant for the national ASCP certifying exam.
• Provide proof of education in accordance with CLIA guidelines.
• Obtain Histotechnician (HT) ASCP certification within one year of hire.
• Meet requirements for high-complexity testing under CLIA and applicable TJC and CAP accreditation standards.
• Work onsite at Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb and be available for rotating, casual/as-needed shifts.
