Histotechnologist (Surgical Pathology)

Location: 251 E. Huron, Chicago, IL; onsite night shift

Salary: USD 35.31–47.67 per hour

What you will do

• Perform routine histology procedures, including tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, coverslipping, and frozen tissue sectioning.
• Prepare representative diagnostic sections and perform special staining using automated and manual methods.
• Identify, investigate, document, and escalate specimen, staining, quality, and equipment issues.
• Maintain accurate specimen identification and documentation across the laboratory information system, cassettes, slides, and logs.
• Assist with gross examination, dissection, tissue selection, dictation, and discrepancy resolution when applicable.
• Support quality systems, laboratory safety, inventory management, process improvement, and training of students and new staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in biological, physical, chemical, life sciences, medical laboratory technology, or histology.
• HTL (ASCP) certification or eligibility; eligible candidates must pass the national certification exam within one year of employment.
• Ability to operate tissue processors, microtomes, automated staining and coverslipping instruments, and related laboratory equipment.
• Ability to follow SOPs, regulatory requirements, safety procedures, and quality documentation practices.

Nice to have

• Previous experience in a CAP-accredited histology laboratory.
