TL;DR
Clinical Laboratory Team Lead - Consumer Genetics (Clinical Laboratory Operations): Supporting high-volume clinical laboratory operations and consumer genetics testing with an accent on specimen acceptability, technical procedures, instrumentation, and quality control. Focus on leading laboratory staff, troubleshooting equipment, maintaining accurate test results, and coordinating daily production reporting.

Location: Onsite at the Burlington, North Carolina facility; listed locations also include Raleigh, RTP, Baltimore, Durham, and Charlotte, United States. Work schedule: Saturday–Tuesday, 6:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

What you will do

  • Assist with daily operations of the clinical laboratory department and keep the supervisor informed of progress, issues, and employee performance.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly production reports for management.
  • Train new hires and support the development of current employees.
  • Determine specimen acceptability and perform routine and complex testing procedures according to standard operating procedures.
  • Operate and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation, prepare and evaluate reagents or controls, and complete preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
  • Report accurate and timely test results, process specimens as needed, replenish supplies, and maintain a safe work environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical science, biological science, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology; qualifying non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits may meet CLIA requirements.
  • At least four years of clinical laboratory testing experience.
  • Understanding of laboratory operations, policies, procedures, and high-volume laboratory environments.
  • Proficiency with computers and familiarity with laboratory information systems.
  • Strong attention to detail, communication, organizational, independent work, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements, pass a standardized color blindness test, and work overtime or other shifts when needed.

Nice to have

  • ASCP and/or AMT certification.
  • At least six months of experience supervising or leading a team.
