Histology Supervisor

Location: Tufts Medical Center, Boston, Massachusetts, United States. Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.; overtime or other shifts may be required based on business needs.

Salary: $90,000–$125,000 annually. External candidates may be eligible for a $15,000 sign-on bonus.

What you will do

• Supervise the day-to-day operations of the Histology department and monitor laboratory workflow.
• Ensure accurate, timely testing, adequate assay coverage, and appropriate staffing across shifts.
• Directly supervise, train, coach, and mentor laboratory personnel.
• Research and resolve production errors, escalate issues when necessary, and recommend process improvements.
• Maintain equipment quality control, quality assurance records, policies, procedures, payroll, and personnel files.
• Perform bench work as needed while maintaining technical proficiency and competency.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in chemical or biological science, histology, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology, or qualifying alternative education meeting CLIA standards.
• At least 5 years of experience as a Histotechnologist or Histotechnician.
• Histology and/or ASCP certification.
• Familiarity with routine histology procedures and equipment, CLIA, CAP, relevant state regulations, and laboratory information systems.
• Experience in a high-volume clinical laboratory, strong attention to detail, communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and within a team.
• Ability to pass a standardized color blindness test and handle the physical requirements of the position.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical or biological science, histology, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology.
• At least 6 months of experience supervising or leading a team.
