Engineer, Strategy and Economics (Transmission)

Location: Hartford, Connecticut, United States; hybrid schedule with at least three days in the office, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Must be available to work up to five days in the office when required and travel between Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire as necessary.

Annual salary: $96,590–$107,320, plus potential incentive eligibility.

What you will do

• Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis of electricity demand, traditional and clean energy resources, consumer cost impacts, power sector emissions, and the transmission grid.
• Research, analyze, and document power sector modeling assumptions and simulation results.
• Support carbon flow modeling software development, testing, and implementation.
• Support economic analysis process improvements and provide research and ad hoc data analysis to internal groups.
• Track federal and state clean energy policies and transmission development opportunities.
• Prepare reports, presentations, procedures, and other analytical materials while collaborating with internal and external experts.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent combined education and experience; a Computer or Electrical Engineering degree is preferred.
• At least three years of related industry experience.
• Working knowledge of ISO New England wholesale electricity markets or transmission planning procedures.
• Understanding of economic theory, wholesale electricity markets, and state and federal utility regulation.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, teamwork, written, and oral communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel functions such as lookup functions, pivot tables, and Power Query.

Nice to have

• Experience with electric production cost modeling tools such as PLEXOS, Gridview, or PROMOD.
• Experience with power system analysis software such as PSS/E, TARA, PowerWorld, or ASPEN OneLiner.
• Experience with Python for web scraping, data analysis, data transformation, and API integrations.
