Clinical Laboratory Manager (Histology)

Location: Onsite at Ascension St. Vincent in Saint Johns, Florida; positions are also listed in Tampa and Middleburg, Florida. Work schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., with occasional weekends and shifts.

What you will do

• Direct daily technical and non-technical operations for the Histology and Cytology Department.
• Manage staffing, production schedules, overtime, recruitment, performance management, training, and development.
• Supervise, mentor, and support laboratory supervisors and departmental staff.
• Perform bench-level testing when needed to support workflow, troubleshoot issues, and maintain operational continuity.
• Ensure service levels, turnaround-time targets, quality standards, and regulatory requirements are met.
• Develop and implement laboratory procedures, equipment methods, corrective actions, and departmental communications.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical or biological science, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology; applicable non-traditional degrees with science credits meeting CLIA standards may be accepted.
• At least five years of experience as a technologist in a clinical diagnostics laboratory.
• At least five years of supervisory experience managing several direct reports.
• Florida Technologist Supervisor License required.
• Working knowledge of CLIA, CAP, and relevant state regulations, plus laboratory operations and procedures.
• Proficiency with Laboratory Information Systems and Microsoft Office, strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to pass a standardized color blindness test.

Nice to have

• ASCP Histology certification.
• At least five years of experience managing supervisors, managers, or other people leaders.
