Senior Transmission Planning Engineer (Power Systems)

Location: Remote; must be located in the United States, Canada, or Puerto Rico.

Salary: $98,614–$167,644 per year.

What you will do

• Lead transmission planning engagements, owning scope, schedules, quality, deliverables, and client relationships.
• Perform steady-state load flow, contingency, transient stability, and dynamic simulation studies using PSS/E, PSLF, PowerWorld, and related tools.
• Lead generation and large-load interconnection studies across CAISO, MISO, PJM, ERCOT, WECC, and other regional footprints.
• Develop long-range transmission expansion plans covering load growth, generation retirement, renewable buildout, and infrastructure needs.
• Support FERC Order 1920 planning and Order 2023 interconnection reform compliance, as well as NERC reliability studies.
• Automate study execution with Python, write and quality-assure technical reports, mentor engineers, and support proposals and client presentations.

Requirements

• BS in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university.
• At least 5 years of experience in transmission planning, power system studies, or related electrical engineering.
• Hands-on experience with transmission planning software such as PSS/E, PSLF, or equivalent tools.
• Experience leading technical studies, managing client engagements, and communicating complex results to utility decision-makers.
• Knowledge of NERC reliability standards, regional ISO/RTO planning processes, interconnection studies, and inverter-based resource modeling.
• Proficiency in Python for power system study automation, model management, and data workflows.

Nice to have

• 8 or more years of relevant experience and EIT or PE registration, or active pursuit of licensure.
• Experience with IBR and BESS dynamic modeling, short circuit analysis, and electromagnetic transient software.
• Experience with large-load interconnection studies for data centers, hyperscalers, industrial customers, or other high-demand users.
• Experience contributing to business development proposals and client scoping discussions.
