Transmission Line Engineering Manager

Location: Fully remote, United States only. Travel for client presentations, field visits, industry conferences, and project reviews is expected at approximately 10%.

Salary: $174,701–$296,992 annually.

What you will do

• Lead, mentor, and develop transmission line engineers, designers, and technical specialists.
• Manage staffing, recruiting, workload forecasting, resource allocation, utilization, backlog, revenue targets, and departmental profitability.
• Oversee transmission line engineering projects from 4kV to 500kV, ensuring safe, timely, cost-effective, and high-quality delivery.
• Provide technical direction for complex projects and establish engineering standards, QA/QC processes, and operational workflows.
• Partner with project managers and business leaders to manage risks, schedules, budgets, quality, and resource constraints.
• Build utility client and industry relationships while supporting proposals, contract negotiations, service expansion, and market development.

Requirements

• Must be located in the United States; the role is fully remote but cannot be performed outside the US.
• B.S. in electrical, civil, structural, mechanical, power engineering, or a related field, plus Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
• 12+ years of experience with an electric utility, EPC, or engineering consulting firm, including 10+ years in transmission line engineering.
• Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams, project portfolios, resource planning, and financial performance.
• Project management experience with 4kV–500kV transmission projects, including WBS, critical path, earned value, schedule of values, milestones, and change management.
• Proficiency in PLS-CADD and transmission line engineering software, principles, and practices.

Nice to have

• Experience with PLS-POLE, L-PILE, or MFAD; utility regulations and standards such as NERC, FERC, NESC, ASCE, IEEE, ANSI, FAC-008, and FERC Order 881.
• Experience with permitting, environmental, right-of-way, planning, procurement, geotechnical, constructability, and construction support activities.
• Experience recruiting, developing, and retaining engineering talent and building client proposals, scopes, schedules, and risk registers.
• Experience with line routing, structure spotting, structural and foundation design, hardware and conductor selection, and material specifications.
