Project Archaeologist (Remote)

Location: Remote role associated with Atlanta, Georgia, United States; applicants throughout Georgia are encouraged to apply.

Salary: $55,665–$94,631 per year

What you will do

• Direct archaeological surveys, testing, and data recovery fieldwork in the Southeastern United States and Mid-Atlantic.
• Conduct background research, artifact analysis, eligibility evaluations, and archaeological field supervision.
• Prepare technical reports and documentation for agency and State Historic Preservation Office consultation.
• Support NEPA, NHPA, Section 106, and state environmental regulatory reviews.
• Evaluate resources for the National Register of Historic Places and develop resource management recommendations.
• Collaborate with archaeologists, historians, engineers, scientists, planners, regulators, and other stakeholders.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a closely related field.
• At least 3 years of relevant professional experience.
• Meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Qualification Standards for Archaeology.
• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Records check.
• Strong technical writing, communication, analytical, organizational, and time-management skills.
• Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and conduct fieldwork in remote locations.

Nice to have

• Experience serving as a Field Director and conducting or supporting Tribal consultation.
• Knowledge of Southeast archaeology and federal and state environmental regulations.
• Experience with ArcGIS, GPS equipment, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Specialization in historic archaeology, geoarchaeology, zooarchaeology, lithic analysis, or bioarchaeology.
• Registered Professional Archaeologist status and experience with budgets, schedules, deliverables, and QA/QC tracking.
