Policy Research, Strategic Advisory (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA; hybrid policy with staff expected to work from an Anthropic office at least 25% of the time

Annual salary: $230,000–$265,000 USD

What you will do

• Lead policy development processes from open questions to agreed, evidence-backed positions.
• Develop research plans and determine how internal data, academic partners, think tanks, economists, and consultancies can support policy priorities.
• Translate findings from economics, societal impacts, and frontier red-team research into briefings, talking points, and materials for policymakers.
• Manage commissioned research and economic impact reports from scoping through publication.
• Anticipate emerging policy issues and develop Anthropic's perspectives and supporting materials.
• Scale policy research and support for international markets through adapted materials, templates, and processes.

Requirements

• Track record of driving cross-functional projects to decisions or completed deliverables without direct management authority.
• Experience as a policy generalist across multiple issue areas, including policy research and policy proposals.
• Ability to scope research questions, collaborate with economists and other experts, and assess evidence quality and methods.
• Excellent writing skills for clear, concise memos, briefings, and talking points.
• Strong organization, project management, independent ownership, and collaboration skills.
• Interest in AI policy and alignment with the mission of developing safe and beneficial AI.

Nice to have

• 5+ years of experience in technology policy, public affairs, consulting, or a related field.
• Experience with in-house technology policy, corporate public affairs, or public-sector and policy consulting.
• Experience managing external vendors, research partners, or commissioned economic impact studies.
• AI or technology policy background and relationships with relevant academic or research organizations.
• International policy experience or training in economics or quantitative methods.
