Archaeologist Principal Investigator / Project Manager (Pacific Northwest)

Location: Remote within the United States, focused on Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. Oregon or Washington residency is preferred, and candidates must be eligible for employment in the US.

What you will do

• Lead cultural resources and archaeological projects, including surveys, monitoring, testing, data recovery, historical research, preservation activities, reporting, site forms, and artifact curation.
• Serve as principal investigator and direct field studies, project mobilization, field teams, and technical interpretation.
• Manage project scopes, schedules, budgets, invoicing, staff resources, quality reviews, and delivery of technical products.
• Support Section 106 and Section 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act, environmental planning, permitting, and consultation with clients, agencies, and Tribal representatives.
• Develop proposals and business opportunities, including scopes, schedules, budgets, technical strategies, and regional staff resources.
• Mentor junior and temporary cultural resource personnel and supervise cultural staff and project managers.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
• At least five years of supervisory experience; progressively responsible cultural resource experience is preferred.
• Experience with cultural resources regulations, archaeological research, project planning, development, and management.
• Familiarity with modern GPS technology and the ability to use it in remote locations.
• Strong written and verbal communication, professional writing, problem-solving, organization, and teamwork skills.
• Must be eligible for employment in the United States, hold a valid driver’s license, and pass pre-employment and post-employment drug and alcohol tests.

Nice to have

• Permission or eligibility to become permitted in Oregon, Washington, or Idaho; California and Nevada permitting ability is also considered.
• Experience providing cultural resources support across the continental United States.
• Registered Professional Archaeologist credential.
• Residency in Oregon or Washington.
• Experience working with architectural historians.
