Lead Energy Engineer (Energy Efficiency)

Location: Remote, based in Houston, Texas, United States, with up to 30% local and regional travel for site visits and client meetings.

Salary: $119,323–$202,850 per year

What you will do

• Lead engineering reviews of energy savings calculations for HVAC systems, building automation controls, lighting, motors, and process equipment.
• Guide engineering staff on baseline selection, energy modeling, and measurement and verification plans.
• Provide technical guidance to contractors and customers on program requirements, energy calculations, and modeling.
• Assess new energy efficiency measures and disruptive technologies, and support pilot studies and deemed savings methodologies.
• Develop and review spreadsheet, regression, and energy performance models for new and existing technologies.
• Conduct on-site energy assessments, analyze commercial buildings, and coordinate strategies with clients and internal teams to increase program participation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, chemical, electrical, energy, environmental, or renewable/sustainable engineering, or equivalent related experience.
• 8+ years of energy efficiency engineering and/or ESCO experience.
• 5+ years of experience with lighting systems, motors, HVAC systems, building automation systems, and industrial processes.
• Valid driver’s license and successful completion of an MVR check.
• Strong client communication, stakeholder management, problem-solving, and project coordination skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree, Professional Engineer license, or Certified Energy Manager certification.
• Experience with AMI data, regression modeling, energy savings calculations, and tools such as TRACE, eQuest, Carrier HAP, EnergyPlus, or OpenStudio.
• Knowledge of IECC, LEED, WELL, the Texas Technical Resource Manual, IPMVP, ASHRAE Guidelines 14 and 211, and utility energy efficiency programs.
• Experience with utility incentive programs, data centers, energy audits, or program evaluation and enhancement.
