AI / Automation Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote-friendly within the United States, with occasional onsite requirements in the Washington, DC Metro area. Candidates must reside and work in the U.S.; foreign-location access and personal VPN connections are prohibited.

Salary: $108,006–$183,610 per year.

What you will do

• Design, build, and deploy Tier Zero self-service tools, virtual agents, AI-powered chatbots, and automated troubleshooting capabilities.
• Implement intelligent routing and predictive maintenance solutions to resolve issues proactively and reduce downtime.
• Build and maintain knowledge repositories, automated content refresh processes, analytics, and integrations with ITSM ticketing platforms.
• Develop low-code and pro-code automation workflows using Power Automate and similar platforms.
• Integrate automation tools with ITSM systems for escalation to human technicians and track deflection, resolution, and satisfaction metrics.
• Document architectures, configuration baselines, and runbooks while ensuring Section 508 and WCAG compliance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
• 5+ years of experience in AI engineering, automation engineering, or a related IT engineering discipline.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience designing and deploying virtual agents or conversational AI tools in production.
• 2+ years of experience with Power Automate, ServiceNow Flow Designer, or equivalent workflow automation platforms.
• 2+ years supporting federal IT programs in HHS, NIH, FDA, or other health-focused agencies.
• U.S. citizenship, U.S. residence, U.S. work authorization, and the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust background investigation are required.

Nice to have

• Experience integrating virtual agents with ServiceNow or Jira Service Management.
• Familiarity with ITIL service management, ticket trend analytics, and automation opportunity identification.
• Knowledge of Section 508 and WCAG requirements for digital tools and self-service platforms.
• AI, automation, Power Platform, or cloud certifications from Microsoft, AWS, or Google.
