Staff Engineer (AI)

Location: Illinois, United States; hybrid or remote

Salary: $174,000–$262,000 annually, plus annual performance bonus, long-term incentives, and equity program.

What you will do

• Design, architect, implement, and operate secure, distributed full-stack cloud services processing petabytes of data weekly.
• Resolve complex technical and business problems across organizations through hands-on engineering and collaboration.
• Provide technical direction across frontend, backend, and data layers, including system design and architecture.
• Build AI-powered legal data solutions operating at massive scale.
• Establish engineering standards for performance, scalability, reliability, and security through reviews, patterns, documentation, and coaching.
• Align technical execution with product strategy, remove operational friction, and mentor senior and lead engineers.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience designing, building, and operating complex cloud-native distributed systems.
• Demonstrated technical leadership across multiple teams or domains.
• Strong background in architecture, security, and reliability at scale.
• Ability to define technical direction, drive cross-team alignment, and translate business goals into technical strategy.
• Ability to influence without formal authority, with strong mentorship and technical communication skills.
• Required skills include algorithms, automation, debugging, performance tuning, problem solving, project management, software development, system design, and technical leadership.

Nice to have

• Experience shaping data platforms or UI standards.
• Experience in global or highly distributed organizations and regulated or large-scale environments.
• Track record of driving organization-wide technical improvements.
• Familiarity with AI development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code.
