Salary: $141,500–$224,000 annually. For specific locations in San Jose, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the New York City metropolitan area: $176,000–$264,000 annually.

What you will do
- Lead materials and process engineering for satellite structures, mechanisms, payload systems, and deployable assemblies.
- Develop material specifications, processing guidelines, assembly procedures, and engineering solutions for composite, metallic, and non-metallic systems.
- Own material characterization, design allowables, test programs, process specifications, and qualification activities from concept through production and on-orbit support.
- Perform material failure analysis, life predictions, Design of Experiments, and Cause and Corrective Action activities.
- Review and approve drawings, specifications, manufacturing work instructions, supplier procedures, and down-flowed process requirements.
- Lead design reviews, hardware integration, shop-floor support, technology evaluations, and technical collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and program management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of materials and process engineering experience, including significant spaceflight hardware development.
- Experience with spacecraft, satellites, launch vehicles, or other aerospace systems.
- Strong knowledge of high-performance composites, core materials, surface treatments, coatings, adhesive bonding, and composite manufacturing processes such as hand lay-up and vacuum bagging.
- Experience with material characterization methods including FTIR, DSC, DMA, and mechanical property testing, as well as manufacturing process qualification and troubleshooting.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
Nice to have
- Master’s degree or PhD in Materials Science and Engineering or a related field.
- Experience with small satellites, broadband constellations, spacecraft buses, composite structures, lightweight design, or space environmental effects.
- Knowledge of DFM/DFA, SPC, production scaling, spaceflight material standards, workmanship requirements, and environmental qualification.
- Experience with Teamcenter, Windchill, supplier support, root-cause investigations, and corrective actions.
- Experience mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership across teams.
