Mechanical Engineer V - Team Manager (Solid Propulsion)

Location: Hybrid or remote from Folsom, CA; Reno, NV; Huntsville, AL; Long Beach, CA; or elsewhere in the United States. Travel is approximately 10% of the time.

What you will do

• Lead complex mechanical design challenges for solid rocket motors, specialized igniters, pressure vessels, actuators, hot gas valves, and rocket thrusters.
• Create 2D and 3D CAD models, technical drawings, GD&T schemes, and statistical tolerance analyses using SolidWorks.
• Set up and validate structural, dynamic, thermal, and combustion simulations for thermal management and structural optimization.
• Apply expertise in advanced metals, ceramics, insulators, composites, and additive manufacturing to support manufacturability, welding, molding, casting, and assembly.
• Provide technical direction and program oversight while aligning design, performance, risk, and contractual requirements.
• Lead and develop a team of approximately 10 engineers through coaching, staffing, resource planning, performance management, and hiring support.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• At least 10 years of mechanical design experience.
• Strong experience with SolidWorks, complex GD&T, technical drawings, and tolerance analysis.
• Hands-on experience designing, developing, testing, or manufacturing controllable solid propulsion systems.
• Advanced technical and organizational leadership, analytical, communication, presentation, mentoring, and team-development skills.
• Must be a U.S. Person under ITAR/EAR requirements and able to obtain and maintain the required U.S. Security Clearance.

Nice to have

• Controllable solid rocket propulsion systems design experience.
• Functional management experience with small, highly technical teams.
• Experience with propellant chemistry evaluation, grain design optimization, ballistic modeling, and combustion or transient response prediction.
