Payload Design and Build Engineer (Hypersonic)

Location: Mojave, California, United States; hybrid work may be considered for well-qualified candidates with at least 75% on-site time

Travel is estimated at less than 10% to support the program.

What you will do

• Lead mechanical interface design and build for integrating experimental customer payloads onto Talon-A hypersonic vehicles.
• Define interface and integration requirements across engineering teams and vehicle subsystems.
• Perform mechanical, structural, thermal, and avionics packaging design and analysis, including experimental changes to the hypersonic airframe outer mold line.
• Create and manage 3D CAD submodels and master models, specify hardware, and support fabrication and vehicle integration.
• Resolve hardware interface issues, support customer reviews and proposals, and ensure deliverables meet customer requirements and schedules.
• Mentor junior Mechanical Payload Engineers and recommend improvements to design, analysis, and workflow practices.

Requirements

• Senior or Staff-level mechanical or structural engineering experience with a bachelor's degree in engineering and 5–20 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling, assembly management, and PDM; experience with SolidWorks or NX is required.
• Experience with structural analysis methods such as hand calculations, FEMAP, or Ansys.
• Experience leading design teams and managing projects, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to acquire and maintain a security clearance; an active TS/SCI clearance is preferred.
• Ability to work independently, adapt to changing priorities, and communicate technical issues to varied audiences.

Nice to have

• Experience with high-temperature material properties, system integration, and avionics packaging.
• Experience with NX and Teamcenter, Jira, Jama, Cameo, or DOORS.
• Experience working in small, dynamic engineering teams with broad responsibilities.
