Director, Engineering

Location: Remote; East Coast candidates preferred

What you will do

• Set the strategic and operational roadmap for the engineering organization, including goals, priorities, resourcing, and multi-quarter planning.
• Lead managers, individual contributors, and offshore engineering teams while driving performance, career development, succession readiness, and hiring.
• Manage departmental budgets, headcount, resource planning, KPIs, work intake, prioritization, and delivery accountability.
• Represent engineering priorities, risks, and progress to executive leadership and collaborate with business leaders on organizational objectives.
• Establish engineering standards for code quality, testing, architecture governance, documentation, and software development processes.
• Oversee delivery of secure, scalable software, resolve cross-team dependencies, guide complex architecture decisions, and manage the offshore vendor relationship.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software development experience, including at least 3 years in people leadership.
• Experience building and scaling SaaS applications and leading multiple teams or a larger cross-functional engineering organization.
• Hands-on experience with Azure and modern development practices; Git experience preferred.
• Experience with Agile methodologies, with Kanban preferred, and with driving process consistency across teams.
• Experience managing budgets, KPIs, resource planning, and departmental headcount.
• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.

Nice to have

• Experience using generative AI tools such as Claude and Copilot to improve productivity and delivery quality.
