Data Science Manager (AI)

Location: Starts fully remote in the US and later becomes hybrid in Raleigh, North Carolina; relocation is required, with relocation possible at the start of the contract or upon conversion to full-time.

What you will do

• Set the AI vision and roadmap for an agentic content platform.
• Lead development of shared agents, reusable platform capabilities, and agent-based workflows.
• Build evaluation science capabilities, including offline evaluation frameworks, automated benchmarking pipelines, and human-in-the-loop feedback systems.
• Design and oversee production-grade AI systems focused on accuracy, reliability, scalability, latency, and human oversight.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Architecture, Design, and business teams to integrate AI at scale.
• Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing data science team while overseeing planning, forecasting, budgets, and resourcing.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or applied AI.
• 4+ years of direct or indirect leadership experience.
• Experience designing, architecting, and implementing an agentic RAG-based system.
• Proficiency with Python and ML/LLM tooling such as LangChain, LangGraph, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and prompt-tuning techniques.
• Experience building multi-agent or orchestrated LLM systems, data pipelines, event-driven architectures, and complex multi-stage processing systems.
• Cloud infrastructure experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP, plus the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to business partners.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.
• Experience with vector databases, knowledge graphs, and hybrid retrieval architectures.
• Knowledge of containerization, CI/CD, RESTful API design, model serving, LLM observability, and evaluation tooling.
• Familiarity with AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot.
