Senior Manager, Applied Science (AI)

Location: United States; fully remote with approximately 15% travel, including possible travel to Boston, Massachusetts for onboarding and occasional in-person meetings and events

Salary: $225,000–$240,000 annually, plus benefits and bonus

What you will do

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Applied Scientists while contributing hands-on as a player-coach.
• Translate complex healthcare and clinical problems into scalable machine learning and data science solutions.
• Design rigorous statistical validation, experimentation, and model evaluation processes to ensure reliable, reproducible, and safe Clinical AI.
• Partner with AI Engineering to deploy, scale, and monitor models that automate and improve healthcare workflows.
• Collaborate with Clinical Operations, Product, Engineering, Analytics, and platform teams to align technical work with business priorities.
• Support recruiting, onboarding, team development, and communication of technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

• PhD with 7+ years of experience, or MS with 10+ years of experience, in machine learning, data science, or applied AI.
• At least 2 years of experience leading and managing technical teams.
• Production experience with modern language models, including agentic or non-agentic LLMs, and classical machine learning techniques.
• Expertise in statistical methods, experimental design, model evaluation, and forming falsifiable hypotheses.
• Proficiency in Python, experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch and scikit-learn, and AWS experience.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with business and product functions to define problems and drive robust, valuable solutions.

Nice to have

• Experience in transactional healthcare, such as utilization management, payment integrity, risk adjustment, quality, or care management.
• Experience using modern language models for healthcare process automation.
• Experience applying retrieval and relational extraction techniques to unstructured clinical notes and patient history documentation.
