Senior Complex Claims Consultant / Claims Counsel - EPL/Professional Liability (EPL)

Location: Home United States; fully remote

Salary: $110,000–$135,000 per year

What you will do

• Independently manage a portfolio of high-severity EPL and professional liability claims from assignment through resolution.
• Evaluate liability, damages, employment law risk, coverage, reserves, venue risk, reputational exposure, and excess implications.
• Oversee litigated claims, direct defense counsel, and develop litigation plans, budgets, discovery strategies, and trial preparations.
• Interpret EPL, professional liability, E&O, management liability, excess, umbrella, and specialty liability policies.
• Develop settlement strategies, negotiate high-value resolutions, participate in mediations, and make recommendations requiring additional authority.
• Document claim strategy, coverage issues, liability evaluations, reserves, negotiations, and resolution activity.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor with active bar membership in good standing, or 7–10+ years of senior-level experience handling complex liability claims.
• Experience with significant financial exposure, including seven-figure settlements, reserves, demands, or potential judgments.
• Strong litigation management experience, including directing outside counsel and developing litigation strategy.
• Expertise in insurance coverage analysis, policy interpretation, reserves, settlement value, and trial risk.
• Experience drafting, reviewing, or advising on reservation of rights letters, disclaimers, denial letters, or other coverage positions.
• Active adjuster licenses in applicable jurisdictions, or the ability to obtain additional licenses as required.

Nice to have

• Experience with EPL, employment litigation, professional liability, E&O, management liability, wage and hour, class or collective action, or specialty liability claims.
• Experience working with employment defense counsel, coverage counsel, mediators, carriers, and insureds.
• Major Case Unit, Complex Claims Unit, Specialty Claims Unit, or Excess Claims experience.
• Previous experience as Claims Counsel, Coverage Counsel, National General Adjuster, Executive General Adjuster, Senior Claims Examiner, Complex Claims Specialist, or Senior Complex Claims Consultant.
