Senior Software Engineer (Data)

Location: Berlin, Germany; 80% office presence and 20% mobile working

What you will do

• Drive data engineering projects from problem definition and solution design through implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing operation.
• Build production services, pipelines, and data products using Go and Python, with clear interfaces, automated tests, and strong observability.
• Design schemas, data contracts, and domain models that safely evolve and handle late-arriving data.
• Implement data quality checks, lineage, freshness monitoring, and clear ownership.
• Operate and improve systems through incident response, reliability work, performance optimization, and cost efficiency improvements.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, analytics, and data science partners while mentoring engineers through reviews and documentation.

Requirements

• Senior-level experience delivering and operating production systems in a cloud environment.
• Production experience with Go or another statically typed language, plus solid Python skills.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, including maintainable code, automated testing, API design, and observability.
• Experience owning projects from problem definition through production and making practical trade-offs around reliability, performance, and cost.
• Experience with data modeling and reliable data processing, or strong transferable backend engineering skills.
• Clear communication, effective collaboration, and experience supporting the development of other engineers.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS or Palantir Foundry.
• Experience building recommendation services, working with lakehouse platforms, or handling high-throughput processing.
