Senior Software Engineer, Data

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs for data ingestion, processing, and distribution.
• Build reliable pipelines for structured and unstructured data from internal and external sources.
• Develop reusable frameworks, tooling, internal libraries, and services that improve data-source onboarding and developer productivity.
• Design and optimise data platforms, including databases, data lakes, metadata catalogues, and storage solutions.
• Improve the reliability, scalability, observability, automation, and cost efficiency of data infrastructure and production systems.
• Collaborate with software, data, and infrastructure engineers to make architecture decisions and deliver high-impact solutions.

Requirements

• Strong software engineering fundamentals and production backend development experience in financial services.
• Professional experience developing applications and services with Python.
• Experience designing RESTful APIs, backend services, data pipelines, or large-scale data processing systems.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with relational databases.
• Experience with AWS, containerised applications, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, messaging, and asynchronous processing.
• Strong understanding of software design, testing, maintainability, independent ownership, and business-impact prioritisation.

Nice to have

• Experience in a commodities trading house or hedge fund.
• Experience with FastAPI or similar modern Python frameworks.
• Experience with Kafka, Infrastructure as Code, cloud-native architectures, distributed systems, or high-throughput data processing.
