Senior Software Engineer, Compute (Databricks)

Location: Hybrid in Warsaw, Poland or Berlin, Germany

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate self-service compute solutions based on Databricks, Airflow, and Spark.
• Enable data practitioners to provision, deploy, and debug data workloads independently.
• Maintain reliability, observability, and cost efficiency for more than 800 daily Databricks jobs.
• Scale Looker reporting and ad-hoc querying across shared warehouses processing more than 300,000 queries daily over petabytes of data.
• Build AI capabilities for the platform, including Databricks MCP servers, pipeline agents, and self-service tooling.
• Partner with Analytics Engineering, Data Science, ML, Experimentation, Ingestion, Governance, and SRE Data teams.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of software engineering experience, including large-scale distributed data systems or compute engines such as Apache Spark.
• Proficiency in Python or another mainstream object-oriented programming language.
• Experience with the modern data stack, including dbt, Databricks, Airflow, or equivalent technologies.
• Hands-on production experience with Databricks, especially Unity Catalog, cluster policies, or serverless compute.
• Experience with cloud cost optimisation at scale, AWS fundamentals, and infrastructure as code, ideally Terraform.
• Strong engineering practices covering CI/CD, testing, and observability.
