Body Systems Injection Molding Engineer (Automotive)

hirify.global provides design and engineering services to global automotive OEMs from concept through production. The client is an American automotive manufacturer developing purpose-built electric vehicles focused on affordable mobility, simplicity, modular design, and customer customization.

What you will do

• Own the lifecycle of injection-molded body system components from tooling concept and mold design through production launch and quality assurance.
• Review and approve mold designs, manage supplier tooling builds, and lead mold qualification from T1 through T3 and beyond.
• Develop, validate, and document injection molding processes using scientific molding principles and defined process windows.
• Lead component quality activities, including PPAP submissions, control plans, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
• Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and supplier engineering teams on DFM reviews, mold flow analysis, and tolerance studies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or a related field from an ABET-accredited university.
• At least 5 years of hands-on injection molding engineering experience covering tooling design, process development, and production support for high-volume plastic components.
• Deep knowledge of mold tooling, including cavity and core design, side actions, lifters, hot runners, cooling circuits, tool steels, and mold maintenance.
• Experience with scientific molding, DOE, SPC, process capability metrics, thermoplastics and thermoplastic elastomers, and injection molding defect analysis.
• Experience with APQP, PFMEA, control plans, PPAP, GD&T, MSA, and capability studies.
• Applicants must have permanent authorization to work full time in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience with Moldex3D, Autodesk Moldflow, or equivalent mold flow simulation software.
• Experience managing multiple suppliers and cross-functional priorities in a fast-paced startup environment.
