Design Release Engineer - Cylinder Block Structure (Automotive)

Location: Pontiac, Michigan or Warren, Michigan, United States. Travel to domestic and international suppliers and plants is required as needed.

What you will do

• Release production designs, source components, and launch engine cylinder blocks and structural hardware for propulsion programs.
• Generate technical solutions, perform complex design analysis, and provide technical leadership for component and technology development.
• Manage engineering changes, PPAP, supplier and plant implementation, prototype builds, production builds, and running-change validation.
• Collaborate with casting, machining, and gasket suppliers to improve manufacturing quality, reduce defects, and drive corrective actions.
• Lead root-cause analysis and containment for field and warranty issues while communicating risks and resolution plans to cross-functional stakeholders.
• Balance cost, mass, complexity, timing, quality, and manufacturing requirements across engineering programs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Materials Engineering, or a related engineering field.
• 5+ years of experience in automotive component release, quality, or manufacturing; powertrain experience is preferred.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional leadership skills.
• Experience with engineering change management and supplier quality processes.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally for supplier and plant support.

Nice to have

• Direct experience with engine cylinder blocks, casting, and machining processes.
• Knowledge of PPAP, APQP, automotive quality standards, DFMEA, and structured problem-solving methods.
• Experience with Teamcenter or similar PLM tools, BOM management, and drawing control.
• Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance analysis, CAE methods, and tools.
